What do you think about the Shibs’ future?
With D/W and V/M retiring it was loggical to assume they’ll get all the attention from their coaches. Some people were proclaiming (and some celebrating) the end of the “Canton era”. But no, Marina picks up the newborn team Sinitsina/Katsalapov, then the youngsters Aldridge/Eaton and finally the current world champions Cappellini/Lanotte.
Should they switch coaches? Probably, but they are both studying at the University of Michigan, I guess that’s a major obstacle on a way to moving somewhere else. Plus, it’s recently been said by Marina that Charlie White will become their technical, uh, consultant (only Shibs were mentioned but maube the whole group in the future?). So it looks like they aren’t going anywhere.
They are constantly beaten by Chock/Bates and Hubbell/Donohue are getting better with every competition, I expect them to outscore the Shibutanis as well. Plus other Krylova/Camerlengo’s students, Hawayek/Baker are starting as seniors this season. They, of course, will not beat the Shibs now but… They stay Marina’s #1 American team but are they her #1 focus? Probaly not.
